What I Learned from Attending the TEDxIslamabad 2017

TEDxIslamabad 2017

TEDxIslamabad 2017 has been my first-ever TEDx Talk as an attendee. I have never been to a TEDx Talk before. It turned out better than I expected. There were gazillion things that I noticed, but I’d like to highlight a few in this blog post.

The reason for writing this blog post around my TEDxIslamabad 2017 experience is that I felt so energetic while hanging out with lots of people from different walks of life. Above all, I felt so proud being a blogger when everyone appreciated me with opened arms. That’s certainly not the first time I was welcomed warmly as being a blogger because I have been attending different seminars and events for past two years and I have had amazing experiences before, but this one was slightly better than the previous ones.

I met startup founders, corporate employees, business owners, aeronautical engineers, web designers, and more.

So, without any further ado, let’s take a look at what I learned from attending the TEDxIslamabad 2017:

1. Opportunities are there

I learned that there is an abundance of opportunities that are right in front of us. All we have to do is grasp them. When I met a lot of people at the TEDxIslamabad 2017, many of them asked for my blog URL when I explained to them that how I help brands in content marketing. We also exchanged emails addresses.

2. Every small effort matters

You might have heard me saying that every small effort matters. I do believe in small and consistent efforts. My attendance at the TEDxIslamabad 2017 proved it right. I could have ignored this event, but I didn’t. Instead, I applied to attend it and got selected. I made new friends, met a few influencers, and became a part of the TEDxIslamabad community. Now many professionals across Pakistan know me as a blogger who happens to be a freelance writer and likes to make YouTube vlogs.

3. Fear is temporary

The fear of reaching out to people and saying HELLO to someone you never met before might be scary for you. Thanks to my freelance writing career, I managed to eliminate a big chunk of that fear because we reach out to loads of brands, but this fear does come time to time. I learned that fear is temporary; it vanishes the moment you shake hand with the other person. So, the next time you attend a conference, feel free to talk to people.

4. A good company makes the difference

I can tell you right off the bat that a good company makes the difference. Jim Rohn said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” The reason I’m talking about the good company is that not only it motivates you to do hard work, but it also brings in a positive energy into whatever you’re doing. My first-hand experience has been phenomenal at the TEDxIslamabad. Now, I’m friends with a few successful people that adore my work and looking forward to listening to what I have to say about the future of blogging and content marketing.

5. The process is important

I believe that process is important because if you go through the process, you remember every bit of it. I started off blogging give or take eight years ago. If I had given up at some point in the past, I would end up somewhere else. I felt extremely good at the event because the most of the speakers had the stories of their past and almost all of them fought through to reach that point of glory, especially Sidra Iqbal, Rida Shah, Haya Emaan Zahid, and Amna Raheel. My gratification toward the process of following the passion got revitalized by listening to those amazing speakers.

Concluding

I have been attending events in Lahore for quite some time now, but I haven’t had an experience like this before. Besides friendly people, co-operative volunteers, amazing speakers, and calories-rich lunch, the vibe was different in Islamabad. It amazed me.

Thank you, Islamabad, for being such a cool place and producing some of the most talented people.

Furthermore, I also made an Urdu Vlog to document the experience. I have been actively vlogging for over a year now. Take a look at this:

  1. Asalam-o-alaikuM, Hassaan Bhai!

I watched the complete vlog’s video and totally loved it! 🙂

It’s been my dream only to attend the TEDx talks. And you know one is to happen, I think, on this 16th in Lahore.

I’ve been trying to attend the events and got some success too as I got to attend some in Karachi and Lahore.

You know we have been having so many events coming up in different parts of the country but the only issue is the transportation.

I am getting a car very soon and that’s the only hurdle I see due to which I don’t apply for many events and hopefully, it will be resolved for me forever. 🙂

    Great going, MashALLAH!

Loved all bits of it! 🙂

See you soon… in person! 🙂

  3. Hassaan, great that you attended the event end enjoyed it.

Jim Rohn once said, you need to be there, you need to feel the experience, you need to immerse in the environment. This is how you learn, this is how it impacts you and this is how you grow. Never miss an event, a chance to meet more people and to see more and to learn more.

I have never been to TED talks but I know we get them here regularly in London, Birmingham and Manchester. Great to see you Vlogging as well. Keep up the good work.
