My 1-line Rule for Becoming More Productive

Productivity has always been a challenge for me until a few weeks ago when I figured out something amazing. It did help me in becoming more productive. Not only did I become productive, but I was feeling fresh as well.

I’ll share the secret with you so don’t panic. The thing is that being a blogger and freelance writer, you constantly juggle various things. If you have been there, you’d know this.

The job of blogging and content writing isn’t just bread and better for me. I do love writing blogs. Therefore, I built a business around freelance content writing. The number one reason I pulled this off was that I love blogging. It wasn’t something I felt like a job because I always have fun while working.

And, for the record, I do like Mondays.

What else can I say?

Becoming More Productive

Here comes the cream of this blog post, which is my 1-line rule for productivity:

Start your day off by doing what you love the most

Doesn’t it look so easy? Sure, you might be wondering that how you’d finish off the daily tasks, clients’ work, and a million things around your business. Let me elaborate what I mean by that.

I learned this through my personal experience; I wasn’t feeling excited and productive for quite some time. What I realized that I was starting my day whether working from home or office, I was always starting off my day with clients’ work. My productivity was going down and I wasn’t feeling motivated to get to work. Then, I realized that I might feel happy and motivated if I start my day off by working on my blog.

So I tried that for a week. The results were fantastic; I was excited to write my blog, work on my social media, and plan new things. The interesting thing is that I spent the first two or three hours working for my personal brand, and the rest of the time working for clients. I was surprised to see that I was getting more done as compared to totally ignoring my personal projects and focusing in on clients’ work.

Writing my blog first thing in the morning was one of the things I started trying. Here are other things that I started off doing in the morning:

Watch a YouTube Video: It doesn’t necessarily have to be a vlog, but most of the times, it’s a vlog. Sometimes, I watch a how-to video while I’m sipping my tea in the morning.

Write my Blog Post: I don’t spend hours on writing my blog post in the morning. Instead, I try to write 300 to 400 words for my blog. I usually continue writing the blog post that I previously started.

Read a Book: When I don’t find anything interesting to watch on YouTube, I grab the book that I’m reading these days and I try to read a few pages. By the way, I just finished Robin Sharma’s Life Lesson from the Monk Who Sold His Ferrari. Amazing book.

Take Pictures: If I’m not awake super early for some reason, then the routine gets a little different. However, I still try to read a book or watch a video, but I don’t often write my blog then. Instead, I go outside in our lawn and try to take a couple of pictures for Instagram. Photography refreshes me, especially if I end up taking good photos. Read my blog post on using photos for the blog so that you’d know what else I do with my photos and how I do it.

Edit Videos: Video editing is one of the things I don’t do it regularly, but I do it once in a while because it’s fun. It doesn’t matter whether it’s my vlog or any other video. I always have filmed videos to be edited because I try to do the batch recording. So, yes, somedays, I like to edit my videos before getting started with my freelance writing work.

Takeaway

I mentioned a list of things that I do before starting my work. It doesn’t mean I do all these things every day – I always choose what I want to do that day before the daily grind and hustle.

What you can learn from my 1-line rule for becoming more productive is that you should find what makes you happy.

Is it your passion project alongside your job?

Is it your puppy training that you want to do before going to work?

Is it the gym first thing in the morning to make you fresh and productive?

There has to be something that would cheer you up.

If you haven’t found that thing, then it’s time to dig deeper and figure out what makes you happy.

At the end of the day, the equation of productivity can’t be completed without happiness.

    Hi Hassan,
    Thanks for sharing your idea.
I am learning freelance writing for 3 months or so and start my day by writing around 750 to 1000 words.
Got the idea from 750Words.com and I love it.
It’s still rough but I am improving.

    1. Hello Umar bhai,

Thanks so much for reading my blog. I have a question for you. I don’t send out new blog posts to my newsletter subscribers these days. How do you keep up? Do you use any RSS tool like Feedly or something like that? Let me know. Thanks.

Secondly, writing every day will surely make you a better writer. It did help me too.

Reach out anytime if you need any help during the process.

I get you through your Facebook Post or just visiting hassaankhan.com
Wonder why you don’t send out newsletter regarding your blog posts.

        1. I thought people might get frustrated.
But I should send out once in a while.
          Thanks!

  2. Hey Hassaan,

I think you’re right about being the most productive when you’re feeling joy and are relaxed. It’s the same for me too (I like to read in the morning, now reading “The Count of Monte Cristo”).

It makes perfect sense when you think about it.
If you start the day doing what you love, than oftentimes you can ride that wave to the end of the day, having accomplished a lot and and certainly all you set out to do that morning.

    Cheers Hassaan:)

    1. Hi Nikola,

Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comment. I’m so glad to find out that you also read books. Isn’t it great? Some books just open a whole new world in front of you.

I’m reading “13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do” which is written by Amy Morin.

Anyways, thanks, again, for your comment.
