How I Improved My Performance by Not Panicking in the Crises

Things go wrong sometimes. We can’t be the Hero all the time. Ice has to melt someday – So it’s not a big deal. All you need is to be there, do the right thing at the right time – Be specific, be ready and be confident to respond.

I was kind of person who used to get worried so quickly. I remember in 2009-10, when I jumped to Blogging and actually started Self-hosted WordPress on my own shared Web hosting account, when I used to see Web hosting down time, my blood pressure used to shoot up…

Total Panic.

Similarly, whenever I came across the difficult situation. I was actually able to respond it, but my disturbing and down response towards the problem was kind of a demoralizing thing for myself… even though I managed to settle every problem I got… (Thank God)

But,

I realized that it can’t be anymore. I need to be there when I reach to a certain difficult point. When I see a NO-GO, I have to be smiling. And facing it like it’s nothing…

Well, I’m feeling privileged to share my one of the greatest self-improvement experiences that really helped me to be a better person and professional out there…

In this article, I’ll share How I Improved my Performance, and how it can be helpful for you:

Panic Situation and My Problem

Okay, I’m not worried to share that I used to be bad crises manager – At times I couldn’t respond to the situation which I came across – I had a serious nerves control problem, I knew it, but I wasn’t really able to get over…

But, I started realizing that it’s not going to work – I should respond to the problems differently… (means positively)…

I told myself that don’t lose control on the situation…

If a problem comes – Accept it. Then think about it. And then try to solve it.

It’s actually very simple to say and believe to tell yourself… In real, you have to make your mind to do that. You have to be ready to respond without a hiccup…

Then, I made a decision that whenever a problem comes, I’ll remain calm, I won’t panic. I won’t get worried quickly… I’ll try to analyze it, and then look for the solution.

Guess what!

It started working for me.

Behind the Scene

Now I’m telling you what is the science behind this trick – It’s actually some psychology involved in it. You can’t come to right decisions in the panic situation. But, when you’re stable, you brain works fine, and your heart races normally…

When a problem pops up, it gives you nothing but a Panic Attack. In this situation, you can only see the problem, and you look to start getting some solutions without analyzing the situation and problem… You think few solutions, test some of them, they don’t work…

Result = Panic Increases

What I started doing is, as I said, I started accepting the problem. When you accept the problem, it means it exists, and you move on to the next step, your mind’s attention shifts to the solution, and if don’t accept it, and keep on solving it on the first hand, little mistakes create big impact. I call it Panic. Much More Panic.

Give yourself some room when you come across such situation. Guess what, A problem comes, something gets worst… Electricity fails, Computer crashed, Emails deleted, Blog’s database failed or whatever bad happened…

Take a deep breath, suddenly go for a drink or coffee… Try to divert your mind to something different, it normalizes your brain to get fresher to again start thinking and planning normally…

After sometime, or even next day, come back again, be calm… Tell yourself that ‘Everything is going to be fine, and you’ll find the solution, You’ll ask to friends, you’ll consult some professionals’ … And, believe that you’ll do whatever the best can happen to solve the problem… Just tell yourself before actually taking a start again (to solve the problem)…

I actually use to give myself sometime if something bad happens. I go upstairs or on the road and just walk… Sometimes I start watching film, sometimes I listen music…

I start doing things which I don’t normally do … Just to divert the attention…

Believe me, when I come back to solve the problem… I solve it pretty quickly and awesomely…

Recent Example:

On various websites my VISA card doesn’t work, so I use my Master Card there… It usually works fine. Few days back my Master Card started giving an issue, and my things got stuck in the middle. I wasn’t able to do some payments…

Result = Total Chaos

I tried 2 days to find the issue, nothing happened…

Then I said, Okay, I’ll check it later. I took the day off…

Next day, I started working to find the solution to somehow get back to work. I was calm, I was clear, I was confident that something good will happen. Then, I got the solution, and eventually the problem solved for me.

Such type of things happen on daily basis to the professionals – I know many other professionals who have figured out their own ways to respond to the problem to solve it.

I actually started feeling better… Even though, I started all this stuff (Avoiding Panic Attack thing) earlier this year. I know, it’s only me who needs to see, analyze and solve the problem. Obviously friends are there, Social Contacts play a vital role… I always discuss things with Friends and Colleagues…

I’m pretty sure; my performance has been increased by 25% by taking few things into the control. Psychology is something you can know, but if you don’t remember it or don’t truly believe on it, you won’t manage to apply it.

That’s good for me.

I’m sure you’ll get something out of this. I’m just asking you to be calm and polite in the crises situation. Give your brain a delay to respond… Don’t Accept the failure at once, Remember, I’m saying Don’t Accept the Failure, Just accept the Problem… Give yourself sometime to respond. You’ll be fine.
